The winners of the British Curry Awards, dubbed the ‘Curry Oscars’ have been announced and Brighton restaurant Chilli Pickle bagged the top gong of the night for best innovation.

Now in their sixth year, and a highlight of the gastronomic calendar, the British Curry Awards celebrates the best of Britain’s favourite dishes and restaurants, and this year’s competition attracted a record 67,000 public nominations.

Chef Heston Blumenthal, speaking at the Awards in London last Sunday, said: “I think the biggest thing of all though for me is that we now have British curry and that is unique in the world. It’s not a poor relation of what you get in India, it has its own identity and we are now influencing restaurants in India.” Here is the list of winners – can’t wait to try ‘em out!
